Will Schupmann

Portrait of Will Schupmann

I am a medical, organizational, and mixed methods sociologist. My research asks how healthcare organizations, regulatory systems, and professions facilitate—or impede—the provision of ethical, equitable, and high-quality care.

I'm a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at UCLA, supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. My projects use in-depth interviewing, observation, administrative data analysis, survey experiments, and social network analysis.

Before UCLA, I was a fellow in the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health, where I conducted normative and empirical research on the ethics of genomic testing and pediatric research.

My research has appeared in social science (Social Science & Medicine, Sociology of Health & Illness), medical (Pediatrics, Genetics in Medicine), public health (American Journal of Public Health), and bioethics (Journal of Bioethical Inquiry) journals.

I also write for general audiences, in Slate, HuffPost, and The Pennsylvania Gazette.
